An interview with Pastor Jerry Rotan

Posted on March 12, 2020 by Justin Serrano

I recently had the privilege to talk a little with Pastor Jerry, and we here at the blog thought you all might be interested in learning a bit about our latest addition to the Harvest ABQ staff. Exciting things are coming for the Senior Adult ministry, and we are blessed to have Pastor Jerry and his wife Linda at the helm.

Thanks for answering a few of my questions. We sure look forward to getting to know you a little better! Where are you and your family from?

I grew up in Midland TX. Linda was born in Albuquerque and grew up in Jal, Farmington and Clovis NM
We have one daughter, Jelynda. She and her husband Jason live in Casa Grande, AZ.
Were you and Linda raised in church, or did that come later?
My parents were very ALL IN at our church. Linda’s parents were pastors in New Mexico. So we both spent a lot of time in and around church. I sang with my parents in church, and that shaped my love for music. We met at Southwestern Assemblies of God University and were married in 1972.

What pastoral ministries have you and Linda served in before coming to Harvest?
Before moving to Rio Rancho, we pastored for 19 years in Casa Grande, AZ at Passion Church. Before that we pastored in Las Cruces, Grants, Lovington, and were the founding pastors of Abundant Life Worship Center in Midland, TX. We also served as staff pastors in Tulsa, First Family Church ABQ, and Christian Life Santa Fe.

Wow! That’s a long history of serving the Church. How did you come to Harvest ABQ, and what turned your heart toward sharing your experience with our senior adults?
Like most people moving to a new community, we were on the search for a church family to connect with. We visited several churches. After our first couple of visits to Harvest and hearing Pastor Jason’s vision, we felt a connection and a “at home” feeling.
What are some of the goals/dreams you have for Harvest’s senior ministry?
We want to be encouraging, connecting and serving through events, fellowships, and everyone being an “ALL IN” resource for Harvest.
That sounds a lot like our goal here at the Harvest Blog. We also want to be an “all-in” resource for Harvest, encouraging, connecting, and serving the Lord, the church body, and our city. I’m so glad you’ve also decided to serve as a member of our blog team in the future. We look forward to hearing what you have to share with Harvest and learning what we as a church body can do to support the Senior Adults ministry!
I have one more question, just for fun. What is your all time favorite movie?  Braveheart
So there you have it, Harvest! Be sure to welcome and introduce yourself to Pastor Jerry and his wife Linda next week.
