Psalm 145:5-6 (NKJV)
I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness.
Luke 19:10 (NKJV)
for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost
DEVO:
We’re getting our hearts ready for Easter by turning our thoughts to Christ and all the wondrous things He has done. Like the Psalmist in the verse noted above, we meditate first on God’s character (who He is) and second on His works (what He has done).
God’s character is not like our character, because, as humans, we are sinful and flawed. God, however, is glorious and worthy of all praise. He is full of majesty and splendor, and we meditate on these truths by rehearsing in our thoughts and with our words that this is who He is.
One of the most awesome acts we read about in the Bible is the story of the crucifixion, of Jesus’s death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. God’s might was on full display. We are on this earth to draw others to Him, to declare His goodness and the Truth of God’s Word to those who are lost. We do this by sharing both God’s character and His works.
We all have opportunities to declare God’s greatness. As we approach Easter, we can ask God to reveal to us these opportunities as He presents them, so that the lost might have the opportunity to know Him and follow Him. In Luke we are told that the Son of Man (Jesus) came to seek and save the lost. As Christ’s earthly ambassadors, it is now our turn to seek out the lost and introduce them to our Savior. We do this in many ways, but during Easter-time at Harvest, that means Eggstravaganza.
For our prayer walk, we go to the physical piece of land where we will be sharing the gospel and we pray that God would be there with us, that He would give us favor, and that He would make Himself known in all the various interactions taking place the day of Eggstravaganza. Then, we go into the community at Marie Hughes Elementary School and we share the love of God by serving our community, telling them that Jesus loves them, and inviting them to come hear the good news of the gospel on a Sunday morning. We are called to go and make disciples, and at Harvest, this is one of the biggest open doors we create to invite people to a life with God.
PRAYER:
God, first of all, I thank You for sending Your Son into the world to be my Savior. I thank You for making a way for me to live in right relationship with You. As Easter approaches, help me keep this truth in the forefront of my mind, that I would look for opportunities to share it with the lost people I interact with on a regular basis. Help me learn how to meditate on Your character and Your works the right way, so that it would spur me to action. May Your Holy Spirit be with me to give me boldness and courage to share the gospel message with people who need to hear it, and give me the words to speak when those opportunities arise. Help me remember that part of my mission on this earth is to bring others to You. I pray for Eggstravaganza, that the community we enter would be open to receiving Your love and truth. I pray that even now, You would soften hearts to be ready to hear the gospel message as it is shared. I pray that all the logistics would run smoothly, that we would have the volunteers we need to make this happen, and that even the weather would cooperate. More than anything, God, I pray that Your will would be accomplished during that outreach event. I pray that when people are invited to join us for a church service, that You would stir their hearts to come and find out more about You. I pray that we would see people’s lives changed because of the way You show up. I pray for an anointing over the services we have on Easter Sunday, that Your Word would impact the lives of people who attend. I pray that volunteers would be strong and healthy and ready to serve You as well as the church and our community with love. I ask that You would make Yourself known to the people who show up for church that day, that even if they come because they’re checking off a box, that You would move in their hearts in such a way that they would know they have encountered the living God. Help us remember why we do what we do, God: we do the work of our Father just as Jesus modeled while He walked this earth. We exist to bring You glory, Father, so I ask that You would receive all the glory and honor in all that we do.
