SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 33:18-22 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May Your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in You.
DEVOTIONAL:
I wonder how often God waits on me. How often does my busyness or my distraction get in the way of God’s work in my life? How often could my life be different if I put my hope in God’s provision for me instead of trusting in my own strength? How often do I try to deliver myself and end up in an even bigger mess?
I love that these verses use the words “our” and “we.” I think we can apply this to our congregation. As a congregation, we are doing a fast together. We, as a collective, are actively learning to put our hope in the Lord. We can acknowledge that He is our help and our shield against the enemy of this world. We can rejoice because we are all trusting in Him together, and because His love is in our midst as we gather together and place our hope in Him.
PRAYER:
God, help me put my hope in Your love for me. Help me turn to You to be my provision and trust You to be my Deliverer. Help me to stop allowing busyness and distraction to take my focus off of You. Help us as a congregation to hope in You. Help us to corporately place our trust in You, to allow You to be our help and our shield against the enemy of this world. And as the Psalmist prayed, “Let Your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in You.”
