Day 17 | Hope in God’s Answer

January 20, 2026

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 38:15 For I put my hope in You, Lord; You will answer me, my Lord, my God.

DEVOTIONAL:
The author of this verse, King David, doesn’t say he is hoping for circumstances to change. He isn’t hoping for a better job or a new car or a spouse. He says he puts his hope in the Lord, which feels very intentional. He knows that only God can do what needs to be done. What have you put your hope in? Is your hope in circumstances or in the Lord? Are you looking to the Lord for an answer, or are you looking elsewhere? David’s statement feels full of confidence in the Lord answering him. He doesn’t seem hesitant or unsure. He has placed his hope in the Lord and he is confident the Lord will answer him.

PRAYER:
God, thank You that I don’t have to rely on the circumstances of life to tell me whether I am okay or not. Thank You that You carry every burden I lay at Your feet. Thank You for always being there for me when I call out to You. Help me learn to put my hope in You. I don’t want to give up on You when it seems like circumstances aren’t changing, so help me hold onto You during these times. Help me learn to wait with expectation and confidence like David did.
