SCRIPTURE:
Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works.
DEVOTIONAL:
The grace of God appeared on the earth in the person of Jesus. He came and brought with Him salvation for everyone. God’s grace is also what trains us to live in godliness and not live a life as a slave to the passions of this world. We can live self-controlled, upright, God-honoring lives because of this same grace, and through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As we are living our lives this way, we also have the hope of Christ’s return in sight, which gives us an eternally-focused mindset as we do the good works God prepared for us to do. This hope of Christ’s return can allow us to live lives completely different from the people around us, because we have something else to look forward to, something exciting and thrilling, something other people can’t comprehend. We should live our lives in such a way that our hope makes people curious and wonder why we can see the same world they see and hear the same news they hear, but not be overwhelmed by the burdens of this life. We should live lightly, allowing nothing to hold us bound to this earth, but looking to heaven and to our true home with a hope that inspires those around us to want what we’ve got.
PRAYER:
God, help me accept Your grace every day of my life. Help me remember that I have been set free, and that I can live a life that honors You because I have You in my life. Help me have Your return always on my mind and in my heart, that it would spur me to live a life that brings glory to Your name, to live life lightly, not attached to this world but looking for my true home with You.
