SCRIPTURE:
Acts 2:25-26 For David says concerning Him, “I saw the Lord always before me, for He is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope.”
DEVOTIONAL:
I find it interesting that David mentioned his flesh dwelling in hope. Scientific research has actually shown that people who have hope in times of adversity are healthier and stronger in their bodies, that hope helps boost the immune system, and even decreases pain. I love it when modern science backs up something we read about in the Bible. David is known for being a man after God’s own heart. He says that he saw the Lord always before him, and I think that’s a good indication of how David grew so close to the Lord. He knew what I would call God’s with-ness. He knew the Lord was always with him, whether times were great and he was rejoicing, or times were hard, and he was filled with sadness or anxiety. David is such a great example of how to take our emotions to God, and then, refocus our attention on Him. Even in times of lament, David always returns to the character of God, reminding his soul of God’s unchanging character.
PRAYER:
God, let me see You always before me. Gladden my heart with this knowledge. Help me to really grasp Your presence with me as I go through my days, and let this awareness fill me with hope. Let me see You when I am filled with hope and praise, and when I am devastated and feeling downtrodden. Help me learn to bring my emotions to You and teach me to always come back to Your unchanging character.
