Easy Ways to Stay Connected All Summer

Posted on May 28, 2019 by Justin Serrano

Ah, summer. A break for some, a whole new level of chaos for others. A time for fun, family, vacations, and enjoying the outdoors.

It’s also a time when church involvement and attendance can slip and take a backseat. Not that our relationships with the Lord are dependent on church attendance, but it can be all too easy to let other things become a priority and before we know it, everything shifts. And not always for the better.

Here are a few simple ways to stay active in church without overcommitting yourself this summer:

  • Focus on quality, not quantity. Harvest’s philosophy for summer is to throttle back on the number of activities planned and allow members to direct activities on their own.
  • Make regular Sunday attendance a priority. It’s easy to let this one slide during the summer. Perhaps this year, see what God in his faithfulness will do when you’re faithful in this!
  • Attend a local service wherever you‘re visiting out of town this summer.
  • Stream services online if you can’t make it live.
  • Stay connected with people from your small group. Invite someone or the whole group to BBQ with you, or even meet up somewhere  like Dion’s for lunch.
  • Continue to send your kids. Whether it’s Sunday school, camp, a VBS program, or other activity, keep those kids plugged in!
  • Show up for the few activities Harvest does have planned—like next week’s pool party! Maybe even volunteer to help.
  • Ask ministry leaders where you might be of help this summer. The regular volunteers could use a break from time to time. Maybe you can’t commit to helping all year—consider filling in for summer so the rest of the Dream Team can take time to rest and vacation, too!
  • Stay-home moms—make plans with some of our other moms and their kids! Head to the park, the pool, the zoo for some fun!
  • Invite a guest. Sure, you can do this year round, but why not bring your out-of-town guests, neighbors, or random people you meet out-and-about! Summer is even more casual than ever, making it a comfortable environment to bring first timers!
